Early Tour Special: Kawazu Cherry Blossom 2019
Good morning to all of you and good News it is:
This is our first early tour in 2019, a special 6 days / 5 nights from Tokyo to the Izu Peninsula’s best sights where we will enjoy the famous Kawazu Cherry Blossom, a wonderful sight and in full bloom about 2 months earlier than the more common cherry blossoms in Japan.. The town holds its Cherry Blossom festival every year from around february 10th through march 10th, there are food stalls with japanese delicacies everywhere, the whole area is lit up at night and more than a million visitors yearly come to Kawazu in spring for these 4 weeks, mainly for the Cherry Blossom but also for the hot springs and the famous Nanadaru 7 Water Falls and weekends are particularly crowded.
Our monday to saturday tour starts and ends in Tokyo, stops in Odawara for the castle, then Atami seaside spa and Jogasaki Kaigan cliffs. Next visit will be little known Inatori area for some nice roads and a visit to the local shrine, then its time to enjoy Kawazu’s attractions. We will stay the first 3 days close to Kawazu and Shimoda which also is next on our list, a picturesque and peaceful little town with its famous black ships, the Perry Road, Okichi saga and the view from Nesugata peak before cruising along some serene beaches to Cape Irozaki, at times extremely windridden and we likely have to rigidly secure our helmets and belongings to the bikes, we lost already one Shoei helmet with Sena 20 there last year into the ocean..This is the most southern point of Izu and we take a walk to the quaint beautiful little shrine on top of the narrow cliffs and may as well board a little boatcruise if wished and make a short hop into the Pacific Ocean to the monkey island just ahead. From there our destination points north right along the coast to Matsuzaki and Dogashima with its famous caves, well worth a visit and already we hope to have the first beautiful panoramas of the Suruga Bay with Mount Fuji in the background, around this time of the year the views are usually unobstructed and wonderful. It remains to be seen and is doubtful – its february after all – whether weather allows us to go further north up to Mount Fuji and if so as we are very close already we will do it but usually we see old hot springs town Shuzenji as our last warm-up destination before slowly going back to Tokyo.
